Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect the vehicle. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will take precedence.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Requirements in Wellington
- To hire a vehicle in Wellington, you must be at least 21 years old, though specific vehicle types may have different age restrictions. Drivers under 25 may incur additional charges. A valid full driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Valid payment information and a security deposit are necessary, and any extra requirements specified in the Rental Agreement must be met.
Booking and Payment Options
- Reservations can be made easily via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Wellington office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The full payment and a security deposit are usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) and include applicable taxes. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, please conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be created and signed to document the vehicle's state. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as when it was collected, accounting for standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as received; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur additional fees, so please notify us promptly if you expect to return the vehicle late. You will be held responsible for any parking tickets, traffic violations, or other charges that occur during the rental period, along with an applicable administration fee.
5. Insurance and Liability Coverage
- Basic third-party insurance is included with every car rental in Wellington. For complete details regarding coverage and applicable excess amounts, please refer to your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to minimize your financial responsibility. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount unless covered by extra insurance. Responsibility for damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains with you, regardless of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and modification policies depend on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of Vehicle
- The vehicle may not be used for any illegal activities, including racing or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials or subletting to unauthorized individuals is prohibited. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, ensure that you do not exceed the vehicle’s passenger or weight limits, and avoid driving outside designated geographical areas without prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
Limitation of Liability in Wellington
To the fullest extent allowed by New Zealand law, Car Hire Wellington will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits or data, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the past year. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraudulent actions.
Governing Law in Wellington
These Terms are governed by New Zealand law. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Wellington's courts.
